The swimming season is a short, intense season, and as it comes to a close, the swim team is looking towards Provincials, which will take place in Kamloops, BC on November 17 and 18.
The Riverside swim team is composed of 10 students of varying grades, and eight will be competing at the provincials. The athletes competing are: grade 11 Taylor Pettyjohn, grade 12 Olivia Willet, a grade 11 Brittney Moore, grade 12 Kinga Wiśniewska, grade ninestudent Shelby Connelly , grade nine Ashiana Sunderji, grade nine Ryann McCready, and grade nine Angelina Burton.
Grade 12 athlete, Olivia Willet has competed on many different sports teams at Riverside including the swim team. She has competed for the Riverside swim team every year since she started going to this school in grade 9, and since she’s in grade 12 now, this will be her last year competing for Riverside.
“I enjoy Riverside sports teams,” said Willet about her experience at Riverside over the last four years. “They do a very good job of involving everyone. I’ve really enjoyed my experience the last four years and I’m sad to be leaving.”
To make it to the provincials, teams from around the district had to compete at the Fraser Valleys on Thursday 27 and had to compete in different events throughout the day.
“I feel pretty confident,” said Ms. Megan Ferreira, coach of the Riverside swim team. “They’re doing quite well so far and we seem to have a promising group.”
