The cross country team had been working hard to have a successful year. This year, the team demonstrated initiative and finished the season off very strong. Through hard work, their senior boys and girls made into the provincials.

The team, which is coached by Ms. Erin Tate and Ms. Tara Keating, practiced rain or shine twice a week on Mondays and Thursdays after school. The team had a meet every Wednesday, held at Mundy park. At the meets, there are two divisions: juniors and seniors. The juniors run first followed by seniors. All juniors run 3.7 kilometers, while senior girls run 4.7 kilometers and the senior boys run 5.7 kilometers.

This year, the season started with grade 12 Olivia Willet finishing first for the senior girls and grade 9 Olivia Mcdonald finishing first for junior girls at the meet on October 5.

At the Fraser Valleys on October 26, Willet finished second and all of the junior girls ran up in the senior category; the senior girls’ team finished second as a team. The team is going to the provincials on the November 9 weekend in Peachland, BC. The Senior boys’ team finished sixth as a team; they are also going to provincials. Grade 10 Joshua Caldwell finish ninth in the junior category, and the team finished 13 overall; however they missed the chance of going to provincials this year.

Willet, who has been running cross country for six years and finished the Fraser Valleys in second place, said she is happy with the result. However, there is always room for improvement and she hopes for good results at the provincials.

It has been a great season so far for the cross country team; well done to the team and coaches, best of luck at the provincials.
