Recently, on Saturday, November 17, Riverside’s grade nine girls’ volleyball team won the Provincial Volleyball Championship hosted at Lord Tweedsmuir Secondary School. The Riverside Rapids defeated the Notre Dame Jugglers in the final to bring the Provincial Championship back to Riverside.
The team had many impressive performances throughout the season and have many talented players that helped them to the championship win. One of these very talented players is grade nine, Jamie Hewlett, who had incredible performances in the Provincial Championships, which lead her to receive the award for Most Valuable Player.

“It felt really good (to win MVP.) I’m really sad (that the season is over). I’m going to miss after school practices with the whole team. It was really great, I got to meet a lot of new people and make a lot of new friends,” said Hewlett.
The championship winning team is coached by Riverside Secondary teacher, Mr. Bryan Gee. Mr. Gee has coached the team throughout the season and the Provincial Championship win was the perfect way to end the season.
“The grade 9 girls’ team played exceptionally this past weekend, I am extremely proud of the team effort and resiliency they demonstrated the entire season. The team battled against the best teams in the province and were able to reach their potential at the right time. It was a complete team effort, the team should be commended for playing hard each and every point,” said Mr. Gee.
The Riverside grade nine girls team had a great season winning the provincial championship and will hope to bring more trophies back to Riverside in the future.
