As 2019 comes to an end, this list will rank the biggest sports moments in 2019 at Riverside Secondary.
This year has been a fantastic year for sports at Riverside Secondary, as many teams have brought home district championships and one even brought home a provincial banner.
Starting off the list is the senior boy’s volleyball team; this year they battled hard and claimed first place in Coquitlam District Championships and Fraser North Championships. Their hard work throughout the year got them a spot in BC provincials where they eventually placed 7th.
At 3rd place on the list is the junior girl’s cross-country team. This year they won the Fraser North Zone Championships, and they were the first team to do so in Riverside history.
2nd place on the “biggest sports moments of 2019” is the junior boy’s soccer team, as they played well and brought home their first Fraser North Championship in Riverside history. This year they battled all the way to the Fraser North Finals where they beat Charles Best 2-1 for the Fraser North Championship.
At the number one spot on this list is the junior girl’s volleyball team who finished the year with a championship at both Coquitlam Districts and Fraser Valley Norths, but to top off their undefeated year they also won 1st place at BC provincials. Brian Gee, coach of the team, and teacher at Riverside, said one advantage they had over their opponents was being extremely selfless and putting each other and the team in front of themselves. Gee also said, “Our team won the grade 9 provincial championships last year, the expectations for this team was pretty clear from the first day that they wanted to be in the provincial final again.”
This year has been strong for Riverside athletics bringing home many banners, with these expectations hopefully carrying over to 2020.
