On December 20th, 2019, 200 media students will be taking a bus to Coquitlam Cineplex to watch the new Star Wars movie, to have a lively time before Christmas break.

Riverside Secondary’s media teachers, Mr. Schoenhals, Mr. Drysdale, and Mr. Ford have graciously planned an exciting field trip where they will be accompanying their students to Cineplex theatres. The students will be screening the new Star Wars movie, The Rise of Skywalker, released in theatres on December 20th, 2019.

Many people await to see this movie, and Riverside’s media students are lucky to be seeing it on the day of it’s release.

200 students plan on attending. “There’s about 100 from this school, and then I invited Heritage Woods, so they’ve got about 100 from there,” Schoenhals said, who is the Media Design teacher here at Riverside.

Only the first 100 students from each school that handed in their permission slips to their teachers will be attending the outing.

Schoenhals said that the first time he’d taken his classes to see a film, the outing went so well that he decided to continue doing it throughout the years, each year seeing a new movie. Students usually love seeing these movies, which is the main reason why this field trip has been happening every year.

“I’ve done these for several years, Star Wars in the past, Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, always the kind of the big movie releases just before Christmas,” Schoenhals said.

The movie itself lasts 2 hours and 22 minutes, and with travel time that will be about 45 minutes, so the trip will be about 3 hours and 15 minutes long.
